Tues 12 April: Feeling the early morning chill on platform 5, I awaited the train with only a cardboard cup of tea and a luke warm bacon bap for company. This trip will be the envy of many, others may possibly even drool at the prospect, but sometimes you’ve just gotta do what you’ve gotta do…

It’s important to keep abreast of the latest developing technologies when you’re working in an integrated design and digital agency. Be it software or hardware developments, emerging new media platforms or routes to market, it’s essential to keep your eyes peeled for the next industry evolution or new standards on both developer/designer and user sides of the table.

Sadly, Tomorrow’s World was canned in 2003 and frankly just reading about new technologies doesn’t cut the digital mustard. You can’t beat hands-on interaction and demonstration. So I took a trip to the Birmingham NEC on an exclusive Press preview invitation to The Gadget Show Live Professional, the largest consumer electronics show. That’s five huge exhibition halls crammed with hundreds of stands sporting the latest gadgets, consumer tech, demos, workshops and presentations from every industry imaginable, giving an insight into technology and trends of the future… FIND OUT WHAT’S HOT!

Fresh and innovative, this is quite special. In creating its own new identity, the MIT Media Lab developed an algorithm that produces a unique logo for every teacher, staff member and student at the school. Three intersecting spotlights can be organized into any of 40,000 shapes with 12 color combinations, and each person can claim and own an individual shape and use it on his or her business card. As Fast Company points out, that’s enough variation to give each new student a fresh logo for the next 25 years. [Ad Freaks].

Great work by The Green Eyl. I love the concept, method, variations and brand application. I also love the customisation and unique brand it creates for each person, it’s a dynamic, evolving brand identity… but honestly, I’m still unsure about those primary colours :/ Watch the 1:11 video and let us know what do you think. See the applications before you make up your mind.

Today, in aid of Rowcroft Hospice’s ‘Go Yellow’ fundraising event, the whole DNA team raised money by enduring another feat of human endurance! – taking turns to row the 60 mile equivalent of Dover to Calais, and back, all in our studio on an Olympic rowing machine. To prove that we’re really going for it we streamed the whole event live, with comments, song requests and more! But it’s not too late, you can still donate to a fantastic cause on our Just Giving page.

Our challenge ran from 7am ? 4.30pm when we reached the magic 60 miles. As of 5pm today, we’ve reached our target so thank you EVERYONE for your contributions! Thanks also to Samatha Barfield at Pure Body for the loan of her rower!

If you missed it, watch the final, rather silly seconds here: http://www.youtube.com/BLOGDIRadvertising

You can still make a difference! Please keep giving. We’ll keep you posted when we have our final fundraising total.
